Seoul National University is more than just a place of learning. The campus is a place where rigorous study, research, Student organisations, cultural activities and life in Seoul are combined. The Seoul National University Clubs also contribute to this experience to allow the students to make friends, discover interests and cultivate leadership skills beyond the classroom. SNU’s primary campus, Gwanak Campus, is nestled in the midst of mountain ranges and green vegetation in Gwanak-gu of Seoul. Other campuses of the university include the Yeongeon medical campus and the Pyeongchang campus. However, for the majority of foreign undergraduate students, Gwanak is the hub of university life. This guide covers campus facilities, student life, clubs, homes, expenditure, city life and how UniRely can assist you in preparing for being admitted and living on campus.

The Gwanak Campus features contemporary academic facilities, green open spaces and a large population of students. It is equipped with research laboratories for students, classrooms, libraries, cafeteria, sports facilities, student-support offices and cultural facilities. The Central Library is one of the most important academic facilities on campus. There are a number of recent additions, such as the Commons Central Library which provides learning spaces and media, and multimedia areas to facilitate research and digital coursework.

The campus is large, so new students often need time to learn bus routes, walking paths and building locations. Its location near Gwanaksan also gives the university a quieter environment than many central-city campuses. Students who are comparing Seoul National University Courses should find out where their college or department is located as it has the potential to impact daily travel and housing decisions due to the location of classes, laboratories and student facilities.

The leaders of government, industry, academia, science and culture have been cultivated at Seoul National University. It has nurtured a number of national leaders and top executives in Korea and abroad, as well as researchers and professionals. The worth of alumni networks is bigger than just famous names to the students. Alumni may appear at career talks, mentoring sessions, academic seminars and networking events. These interactions can help students understand professional pathways and Korean workplace expectations. However, an SNU degree or alumni connection does not guarantee employment. Career outcomes still depend on academic performance, language ability, internships, networking and interview preparation.

Campus events play a pivotal role in the life of students and help to unite the academic, cultural and social community of the campus. There are many important moments during the university experience, such as the entrance and graduation ceremonies. At ceremonies and official events dress is formal, but there is no typical dress code for students in class.

SNU also hosts student-led festivals and performances throughout the year. In 2025, for example, student band clubs helped organise “Gwanak AMP UP,” the university’s first rock festival, bringing together student musicians, alumni bands and other organisations. Colleges and residence halls can also arrange for their own cultural activities, games and community functions. These events provide international students with a chance to connect with Korean students and see campus life first-hand.

The life at SNU can be very busy, but also fun. Lectures, lab, library, club, sports, commons, and cafeteria time with friends constitute a typical day.

International students may also find assistance in the Office of Global Affairs and in other University services. The SNU I-Office offers hands-on information for international students on topics like accommodation, transportation, health insurance, and adaptation to life in Korea.

For newcomers student organisations are particularly helpful. SNU International Students Association (SISA) is the official representative of international students and assists them with their academic and social adjustment. SNU Buddy also welcomes international students with activities for cultural exchange and interaction with Korean students.

International Student Organisations

SISA is one of the most important organisations for international students. It was opened in 2007 for the purpose of supporting international students and introducing them to life at SNU. SNU Buddy is another student-led organization that enables international students to meet with Korean students and to learn about Korean culture via social and cultural programs. The participation at Seoul National University clubs is beneficial for the development of communication, teamwork and leadership but must be balanced with hard work in the courses.

Gwanak Residence Halls are available for on-campus housing. There are thousands of undergraduate and graduate students from over 80 countries living in the residence-hall system. Common facilities may include common space, fitness area, study rooms, convenience store, cafeteria, laundromats and recreational facilities, depending on the building. The students who stay in the dorms of SNU Korea has a greater chance to participate in classes, clubs and the campus events. Also, it can enable international students to get acquainted with people from various cultural backgrounds. But, space is limited and admission does not mean a student will immediately have a dormitory room.

Off-Campus Housing

Students can also live in independent apartments, studio units or shared accommodation in the vicinity of Gwanak Campus. Moving away from campus increases student autonomy, though it can mean dealing with security deposits, agency commissions, utility bills, and a longer journey to classes.

Estimated Cost of Living

Living expenses depend strongly on housing and lifestyle. A broad annual estimate for an international student may be around KRW 8 million to KRW 14 million, although students in private housing or those with higher personal spending may exceed this amount.
