Fordham University is a private research college in New York City, established by John Hughes as St. John’s College in 1841 and later named for the Fordham neighborhood of the Bronx in which its main campus is located. The authority of the school administration was soon handed to the Society of Jesus, and since then it is a Jesuit-affiliated autonomous school under a lay board of trustees.

Fordham is the ancient Catholic and Jesuit College in the north-eastern United States and the third-most seasoned college in New York State. The educational program of Fordham remains impacted by Jesuit instructive standards, as Fordham exists as the main Jesuit tertiary establishment in New York City.

 

English Proficiency Requirements:

Proficiency & fluency in the English language is a mandated requirement if you are thinking to be part of the esteemed Fordham University. International candidates whose first language is not English must meet the English Proficiency Requirements through standardized test scores like TOEFL & IELTS. Usually, a score of 90+ in TOEFL & 7.0+ in IELTS is considered to be a good parameter while applying for the Fordham University. 

International students not willing to submit the TOEFL or IELTS scores need to fill an English Language Proficiency Test Waiver Request Form while applying to the university.

 

SAT/ACT Requirements:

The average SAT score required to get admitted to the Fordham University ranges from 1260-1430, & on the other hand, the average ACT score ranges from 27-31.    

 

Application Requirements: 

The application requirements of an international applicant differ from that of a US applicant. An applicant can apply for this university through a common application only with an application fee of $70. At the time of applying original transcripts and national testing results from recognized boards such as GCSE, CAPE, or ICSE results, or projected results for IB, A levels, etc. are required. 

Also, those students who apply for the dance or theatre category are required to fulfill some additional requirements as well like, theatre students must apply by the ‘priority performance’ deadline, whereas students aiming to take visual arts as a major must also submit a portfolio along with the application.

 

Total Fees & Cost of Living:

Studying abroad is expensive, but with the merit-based scholarship aids, and financing options and ‘earn while you learn’ schemes make it affordable for the applicant to study abroad. The total tuition fee expenses per year are estimated to be $51,285 (roughly 36 lakh rupees) and the total living expenses per year costs $22,865 (roughly 16 lakh rupees). Thus, a lump sum of $74,150 (roughly 52 lakh rupees) comes out to be the estimated expense of an applicant of Fordham University. 

 

Application Portal:

After submission of the application through the common application only, the applicant receives all the details via email. Further communication also takes place via email as the university doesn’t have its own application portal. Decisions for application acknowledgment are released on a rolling basis after February 1, and all decisions are confirmed by April 1.

 

Essay Prompts:

In addition to academic transcripts, extracurricular activities, and letters of recommendation, Fordham gives applicants the option of providing an additional essay. For the Fordham application, one needs to write a personal essay in response to one of the prompts which are provided by the Common App. University also advises the students to submit a supplemental essay if they feel the college application didn’t provide them with adequate opportunity to convey important information about their accomplishments.
