Read this complete guide on how to apply to George Washington University and get started.

English Proficiency Test Requirements

English language proficiency tests are mandatory for applicants belonging to a country where English is not the native language. TOEFL (iBT), IELTS, Duolingo English Test, and PTE Academic are the English Proficiency tests accepted at GW. The minimum scores set by the university are:

  • 90 and above on the TOEFL iBT
  • 6.5 and above on the IELTS
  • 115 and above on the Duolingo English Test
  • 61 and above on the Pearson Test of English Academic

These language proficiency requirements can be waived under either of the two circumstances:

  • If you have achieved a minimum score of 650 in the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section of the SAT, or
  • A minimum score of 29 on the ACT English exam

ACT/SAT Requirements

SAT and ACT are the two standardized tests that the universities require to review the application. However, these are not mandatory for the students applying to enroll at GW in 2021.

The university doesn’t have any minimum score criteria for admission but it is good to have a high score on your tests. Below are the estimated scores for your reference:

Test Score Range Average Score
ACT 1-36 27-32
SAT 400-1600 1280-1450

Also, the writing section of the two tests is optional as it is not considered by GW for admission.
