With so many courses and colleges to choose from, selecting the right course and a perfect university can be a daunting task. Once you have chosen the right degree, it’s important to make a university list! 

Firstly, keep an open mind about different programs. You can also apply to a combination of degree programs. For example, if you are applying to HR-related programs, you can also apply to Industrial/Organizational Psychology programs, as long as the curriculum fits best with your goals. So, keeping an open mind is very important. 

Secondly, you need to extensively browse programs and create a spreadsheet of all the programs you are interested in. Jot down all the important information about the universities like location, tuition fees, Degree duration, Application requirements, Curriculum etc. Now that you have all of this information in one place, it makes it easier to compare different programs on each of these parameters. 

Now, with the information from your spreadsheet, you should identify and label each program in the following three categories: Dream, Reach and Safety universities

A Dream university is where you want to go the most but it’s also relatively difficult to get in. A Reach university is where you have a reasonable chance of getting in. And a Safety university is where you’re almost positive you will get in. You can determine what category each school falls in by looking at their GPA requirements, standardized test requirements and the number of students they admit each year. 

Now you should create a final list of 15 universities where you have 5 dream universities, 5 reach universities and 5 safety universities listed. It is not recommended to only apply to dream universities because those are the toughest to get in. So, it’s important to be very strategic about your final universities list!
