Interviews are an important component of the college admission process. Most of the universities in the US hold interviews before offering admission to students but that’s not the case for universities in the UK. Interview calls are very rare in the UK and students who get called for interviews are mostly the ones who have passed the first round of elimination. Many universities only call students for interviews who have applied for competitive courses. These interviews are usually carried out over Skype, however, some universities require the physical presence of the applicants as well.

Skype Interviews

Skype Interviews are usually for courses such as Engineering and fine arts where the universities do not require the students to be physically present. These interviews are about 10-30 minutes long depending on the university.

In-person Interviews

Physical interviews or in-person interviews are usually more detailed and are of a longer duration. They may take place in the UK or in the applicant’s own countries. Universities often send their admission officers to various countries to conduct these interviews for the ease of international students. On the other hand, students applying for competitive courses such as Medicine usually have to give physical interviews in the UK as they may need to perform lab work.

Tips to Ace your Interview

Some important things to remember when giving an interview for admission are:

  • Make sure to research the university thoroughly when preparing for the interview.
  • Don’t stress about sounding smart. Talk honestly and with passion about your intended field of study.
  • Engage your interviewer and let the conversation flow smoothly.
  • If you are going in for a physical interview, make sure you are dressed in business casual attire.

Follow these tips, prepare accordingly, and you should have stressless interviews. University-specific mentors at UniRely train lots of students through mock interview rounds and help them ace their interviews to their dream universities in the UK. Please visit unirely.com for more information.
