Grades are very important, and there’s no substitute for a good GPA or percentage! They demonstrate your ability to prove yourself in a challenging environment. Universities want assurance that you will be able to thrive within such an environment, and grades are a good indicator of that.

When applying to universities in the UK, you will have to provide the grades of your 3 or 4 years of the undergraduate degree, with a cumulative GPA (CGPA) or aggregate percentage. You will not have to convert your CGPA or percentage to what is the standard in the UK as the Admissions Committee is well versed with testing score scale across the world.

It’s important to know that if you are pursuing your undergraduate degree and don’t have all your transcripts, you will still be eligible to apply. However, your offer will be contingent on you meeting a few conditions set by your university. For example, your offer can be subject to completion of your degree with a First/Second Division, which could be a certain aggregate percentage or CGPA as well as submitting your official degree certificate. In most cases, the university will accept a provisional degree certificate if you are unable to provide the official degree certificate.

You may also need to provide grades of other graduate or professional degrees that you’ve pursued.

What are good grades?

Now you might be wondering what good grades are. Well, the definition of good grades varies from university to university, but for most universities, a minimum aggregate of 70%, and a cumulative CGPA of 3.5+ out of a scale of 4 or 9 out of a scale of 10 or grade A consistently for 3 or 4 years depending on your undergraduate degree is required. A good GPA can be further substantiated by a great GRE or GMAT score. Universities’ Admissions committee understands that things may not always go as planned, and therefore, a GMAT and GRE score is absolutely non-negotiable.
