Nanyang Technological University was ranked 11th in the world and 3rd in Asia in the 2020 QS World University Rankings. Applying to NTU
In this article, we will be guiding you on how to fill out the application form. An important thing to note about NTU’s application form is that you cannot save your progress so you will have to fill out the entire application in one sitting. So it is best to have all your documents and transcripts ready before starting your application.

The application for NTU opens in mid-October and closes by end-March.

1. Personal Particulars
In the first section, you will be asked to fill in your personal details such as Full Name, Date of Birth, Gender, Nationality, Home Address, Email IDs, contact numbers, parents’ details, identification document number etc.
2. Choices of Programme
NTU allows you to choose up to 5-course choices. You should order your choices according to your preference with the topmost course choice being your highest priority. If you are unsuccessful for your first choice then you will be automatically considered for the other courses. It is important for you to check each course’s individual requirements for any entrance examination or additional application components. For example, if you apply to the School of Art, Design and Media, you must additionally submit a portfolio.
3. Educational Qualifications
As an international student, you must have completed 12 years of formal education by July of the admission year. First, you will be asked if you are still studying in class 12 or if you have completed. The following are the primary components:
- Class 10 grades
- Class 12 grades (most recent results, if not completed 12th grade)
To get an offer from NTU, you will have to be in the top 5% of your cohort, as the competition is very high among applicants. For CBSE and ISC students, it is considered that a score of 95% and above will give you a good standing. Most offer holders have a score of around 97%, so it is extremely important for you to focus on your class 12 final examinations.
Additional test scores like the SAT/ACT are not required for Indian students. However, if you wish to provide your test scores, there is additional space. Here, you can mention your SAT Subject Test scores also if you have taken them. You will have a maximum of 200 words to fill this section.
If you have completed 12th grade, you will be asked your reason for taking a gap year. It is best to be honest and write down what you have done in the gap year. You will be given a word limit of 200-250 words.
4. Optional Section – if you have chosen Medicine as your first choice
To be considered for the Medicine course, you will have to a few additional components to your application:
- BioMedical Admissions Test (BMAT)
- Personal Statement of 300 words explaining your choice to study Medicine.
- 2 References
Instructions for your referees with regard to completing the online referee report are available at “Tracking Page” which you will be directed to after completing and submitting the online application form. You are required to forward the details to 2 referees to complete the online referee report.
5. Outstanding Achievements (Optional)
NTU gives a very high weightage to academic merit while deciding the outcome of an application, however, an outstanding achievement can also influence an admission decision.
What is an outstanding achievement? According to NTU, they also consider exceptional achievements in co-curricular activities and competitions. You should have attained a very high level of achievement or leadership positions in activities. Some examples of these types of achievements include International Olympiad medals, top national awards, national team sportsmen and exceptional rank in top university entrance examinations like IIT-JEE Mains and Advanced rankings. You will be given 200 words to complete this section.
6. Tuition Grant
In this section, you will be asked if you wish to apply for a Tuition Grant. The tuition grant allows you to pay a subsidized tuition fee. You must be prepared to sign a Tuition Grant Agreement with the Government of Singapore, which would require that you secure employment and serve in a Singapore entity for three years upon graduation. You will also have to provide proof of English Proficiency through Standardized test scores. The accepted test scores are:
- TOEFL
- SAT
- IELTS
- PTE Academic
- ACT with Writing
7. Finalizing your application and payment
Before submitting your application, you will be asked to make a few declarations:
- Disabilities & Special Needs: Here the applicant will have to share any medical/mental conditions and/or any physical disabilities so that the university has an understanding of the support and resources needed to facilitate the student’s education.
- Application History: The applicant must declare if they have previously applied to NTU and if they had received an offer and any details.
- Current Academic Status in Singapore: This section asks the applicant if they are currently studying in any Singapore institution.
- Criminal Offence Declaration: The applicant must declare if he/she has been convicted of any criminal offence in court.
After submitting your declarations, you will be required to make the payment of around SGD21 (₹1150) in order to confirm your application. After you see the confirmation page, you can close the tab. Congratulations, you will have officially completed your application to NTU!
8. Documents Submission
After you submit your application, you will be asked to submit scanned copies of your documents. The checklist of document is:
- Copy of Class 12 Final results (when available)
- Copy of latest examination results (example Class 11 Final exam results)
- Copy of University transcript (if applicable)
- Copy of additional score reports (example SAT, SAT Subject Tests, IIT-JEE)
- Copy of Passport (identity document)
- Copy of International Olympiad Certificates (if applicable)
- Copy of medical report of any existing conditions (if applicable)
- Copy of Criminal record(s) (if applicable)
Now, you are done with the application process. After submitting all your documents, wait for the university to send out an invitation for an interview, if applicable. The hardest time during the application process is waiting for the results. Now that you have finished the application with a lot of hard work, it is important for you to not stress about the outcome of your application. You have done your best and it is now up to the admissions officers to decide whether to send an offer or not.
Interviews
Applicants shortlisted for certain courses like Medicine will be invited for interviews. You may also be required to give an interview if you have applied for some scholarships under the Tuition Grant.
Announcement of Acceptance Offer
If you are successful, you will receive an offer by mid-July and will have to start the matriculation process. It is finally time to start your journey in your dream university!
Tuition and Other Fees
The cost breakdown of studying at NTU is as follows:
- Tuition Fees: varies by course, average is SGD 35,100 (approx ₹19 Lakh)
- On-Campus Accommodation: varies from SGD 2500 – SGD 6500 (approx ₹1.3L to ₹3.5L), depending on the hall and type of room.
- Meals, personal expenses, transportation, books & supplies, miscellaneous fees: around SGD 8000 (approx ₹4.3L)
- Total average cost is around 24.5 to 27 lakh rupees.
